Authorship & Contributorship Policy

Innovative Research in Applied, Biological and Chemical Sciences (IRABCS) recognizes authorship as an important academic responsibility that provides appropriate credit for intellectual contributions and establishes accountability for published research. Authorship reflects not only recognition of individual contributions but also responsibility for the accuracy, integrity, transparency, and ethical conduct of the published work.

IRABCS follows internationally accepted authorship principles, including the recommendations of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) and established publication ethics standards recommended by organizations such as the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

The journal requires complete transparency regarding authorship, individual contributions, affiliations, and responsibilities of all contributors. All authors must meet appropriate authorship criteria before manuscript submission and must agree with the final submitted version.

Authorship Criteria

An individual should be listed as an author only when they have made substantial intellectual contributions to the research and manuscript development and accept responsibility for their contribution to the published work.

In accordance with ICMJE recommendations, authorship should be based on all of the following principles:

The individual has made substantial contributions to the conception or design of the research, acquisition of data, analysis of data, interpretation of results, development of methodology, or other significant scientific aspects of the study.

The individual has contributed to drafting the manuscript or critically revising it for important intellectual content.

The individual has reviewed and approved the final version of the manuscript submitted for publication.

The individual agrees to be accountable for all aspects of the work and accepts responsibility for ensuring that questions related to accuracy, integrity, ethical conduct, or reliability of the research are appropriately investigated and resolved.

Individuals who do not meet these authorship requirements should not be listed as authors. Their contributions may be recognized appropriately in the acknowledgment section.

Author Information and Submission Requirements

To ensure accurate attribution, transparency, and proper identification of all contributors, IRABCS requires complete author information at the time of manuscript submission.

The corresponding author must provide complete and accurate information for every listed author, including:

Complete Name:
The full name of each author as it should appear in the published article. Authors should ensure that spelling, order, and formatting of names are accurate before submission.

Email Address:
A valid professional or institutional email address for each author must be provided. Email addresses are used for official communication, author verification, and publication-related correspondence.

Phone Number:
A valid contact number may be requested for administrative communication, author verification, or urgent editorial correspondence.

Academic Designation:
The current professional or academic position of each author must be provided, such as Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor, Research Scientist, Research Fellow, Student, or other relevant designation.

Department:
Authors must provide the full name of their affiliated department, research unit, laboratory, or organizational division.

Institute/Organization:
The complete official name of the affiliated university, research institute, hospital, company, or organization must be provided.

Academic Degrees and Qualifications:
Authors should provide relevant academic qualifications and professional degrees, including undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, postdoctoral, clinical, or professional qualifications where applicable.

ORCID iD:
IRABCS strongly encourages all authors to provide a valid ORCID identifier. ORCID helps ensure accurate author identification, distinguishes researchers with similar names, improves research visibility, and supports reliable indexing and citation tracking.

Author Contribution Statement:
All authors must provide a clear description of their individual contributions to the research and manuscript preparation process. IRABCS encourages the use of the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT) framework for standardized contribution reporting.

Author contributions may include:

  • Conceptualization of the research idea.
  • Development of methodology.
  • Investigation and experimental work.
  • Data collection and management.
  • Data analysis and interpretation.
  • Statistical analysis.
  • Preparation of the initial manuscript draft.
  • Critical revision and scientific editing.
  • Supervision and project administration.
  • Funding acquisition.
  • Final approval of the published version.

The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that all author details, affiliations, ORCID identifiers, and contribution statements are complete, accurate, and approved by every author before submission.

Responsibilities of Authors

Authors submitting manuscripts to IRABCS are responsible for ensuring that their research is original, accurately reported, ethically conducted, and appropriately documented.

All authors must confirm that:

The submitted manuscript represents original work and has not been published previously except where properly disclosed and justified.

All sources, data, methods, and previously published materials are appropriately cited and acknowledged.

Necessary ethical approvals, permissions, and participant consents have been obtained where required.

Funding sources, institutional support, and conflicts of interest are transparently disclosed.

All authors have reviewed and approved the manuscript before submission.

Authors must cooperate with editorial communication, respond to reviewer comments, provide requested information or supporting documents, and participate in investigations related to possible errors, ethical concerns, or research misconduct.

All authors share responsibility for the integrity of the published research. Inclusion as an author indicates acceptance of responsibility for the accuracy and reliability of the work.

Corresponding Author Responsibilities

The corresponding author serves as the primary communication link between IRABCS and all authors throughout the submission, peer-review, revision, and publication process.

The corresponding author is responsible for:

Ensuring that all listed authors meet authorship criteria.

Obtaining approval from all authors before manuscript submission.

Confirming that author names, affiliations, degrees, ORCID identifiers, and contribution statements are accurate.

Providing complete submission information and required declarations.

Responding to editorial queries and coordinating communication among co-authors.

Ensuring that all authors approve revisions, final proofs, and the published version of the article.

The corresponding author must ensure that all authors are aware of the manuscript status and agree with decisions made during the publication process.

Contributor Recognition and Acknowledgments

Individuals who contribute to research activities but do not meet authorship criteria should be recognized appropriately in the acknowledgment section.

Examples of contributions that may be acknowledged include:

Technical assistance, laboratory support, administrative assistance, language editing, data management, statistical consultation, general supervision, or other forms of support that do not involve substantial intellectual contribution.

Acknowledgment should not be used to exclude individuals who meet authorship criteria. Individuals who have made significant intellectual contributions must be recognized through authorship.

Unethical Authorship Practices

IRABCS does not permit unethical authorship practices, including gift authorship, guest authorship, honorary authorship, or ghost authorship.

Gift or honorary authorship refers to including individuals as authors despite their lack of substantial contribution to the research.

Guest authorship refers to adding individuals because of their position, reputation, authority, or affiliation rather than their actual contribution.

Ghost authorship refers to excluding individuals who made substantial intellectual contributions to the research or manuscript preparation.

Such practices violate research integrity principles, create inaccurate attribution of scientific contributions, and may result in editorial investigation and appropriate action.

Authorship Changes After Submission

IRABCS requires authorship information to be finalized and approved by all contributors before manuscript submission.

Once a manuscript has been submitted, authors cannot be added, removed, replaced, reordered, or otherwise modified during peer review, revision, acceptance, or after publication.

The journal considers authorship information provided at submission to be the official record of contributor responsibility.

Requests for authorship changes after submission will only be considered in exceptional circumstances, such as documented administrative errors or situations where substantial evidence demonstrates that the original submission contained an unintended authorship mistake.

Any request for authorship modification must include:

A detailed written explanation describing the reason for the requested change.

Written agreement from all original authors.

Written confirmation from any author being added or removed.

Approval from the Editor-in-Chief before any change is considered.

IRABCS reserves the right to reject authorship change requests if sufficient justification, agreement among authors, or evidence of legitimate need is not provided.

Authorship disputes, disagreements regarding contribution, or changes in author order after submission will not normally be accepted as grounds for modification.

Authors are therefore required to carefully review and confirm all authorship details before submitting a manuscript to IRABCS.
